Professor Joseph Chaiken, who teaches in the Chemistry Department at Syracuse University, has developed a product to test glucose without taking one drop of blood. The revolutionary product is called LighTouch and monitors spectroscopic blood signals in the capillaries. LighTouch analyzes the colors in light coming from the finger and is pain-free for the user. Though the product won't be available to the public for several years, medical personnel in clinics and hospitals will use the first machines, which still needs FDA approval. Chaiken won the 2005 Frank Annunzio Award in the field of science and technology for LighTouch. By Ellie Kuykendall |
