Baby boomers caught between raising their children and parenting their aging parents can find advice and support in a newly available - and free - e-book.
Such people who are "stuck in the middle" are known as the "sandwich generation."
Through the organization Active Seniors in Transition, William Bryan, Ph.D., and Joanne Rogovin, L.C.S.W., spend much of their time coaching sandwich-generation baby boomers on how best to maintain their own identity and sanity while providing valuable and necessary support to their aging parents.
Together, Bryan and Rogovin have written a new e-book entitled "How Sandwich Generation Baby Boomers Can Prepare Themselves and Their Active Senior Parents for Inevitable Transitions." Its purpose is to help families who are now or ultimately will be caught in the sandwich to better navigate the stresses and challenges that will be thrust upon them.
"As senior parents age, sandwich-generation baby boomers feel the stress of demands on their time, energy and financial resources. They inevitably face many personal, emotional and psychological challenges as their parents transition from active and self-sufficient to being totally dependent on family members," Bryan said.
Rogovin said the purpose of the e-book is to help sandwich-generation baby boomers by offering concrete guidance, ideas and advice on how to make things easier for themselves, their children and their siblings, as they are called upon to play a larger, more challenging role with their aging parents.
The e-book is available free online at http://www.ActiveSeniorsInTransition.com.
