If your fitness plans always seem to stall at the stage of good intentions, a new Web site might provide the needed push to your push-ups. HyperStrike, a fitness, nutrition and training company, has launched Goalster, http://www.goalster.com, as a free tool to keep people motivated to achieve their health and fitness goals. The site allows participants to track their workouts; for example, exercise time, number of push-ups performed, glasses of water drunk a day, grams of fat consumed, body measurements, cholesterol and body-mass index are all trackable, as are several other factors. The site provides graphs, charts and statistics on personal progress. The page also can be shared with friends or family members, creating a support system that can help keep participants accountable and motivated to achieve fitness goals. And celebrating successes with people who are close can be rewarding. "It all started when I realized I wasn't living the life I wanted," Mike Greeves, CEO of HyperStrike and founder of Goalster, says. "I found myself spending too much time on the computer, and running my business was ruining my health. So I decided to make a commitment to my health and my family. I used the site daily to track my weight and exercise time. To date, I've lost 24 pounds. By sharing my goals with my friends and family, I was motivated to keep my commitments, and I got back in shape." Goalster has three major components: track, share and achieve. By regularly tracking personal health and fitness goals, participants can quantify and monitor exactly what they want to do and how to do it. Sharing these goals with friends and family gives people that extra motivation to pull through; even if they don't feel like taking that evening jog, they know their best friend will call them out on it tomorrow at work, Greeves says. With tracking and sharing, achievment will follow, he says. Maintaining fitness goals can be a challenge if people are too busy to follow through with their goals, Greeves says, but he believes online access to an accountability program can be ideal for fast-paced lifestyles. Making the decision to set health and fitness goals for oneself, and holding oneself responsible for those actions, is something to be proud of, he says.
